Vocational Discernment Group
An intriguing intergenerational Vocational Discernment Group has formed among a few folk at OVCC and beyond -- from all over the US and even overseas! Why?
Not having enough work, or the right job ‘fit,’ or a community and network to support you when you're making vocational transitions can be a major stressor in life. LACKING meaningful or well-compensated work can be financially burdensome, emotionally taxing, and physically exhausting. :(! And MAINTAINING a job, once you've found it -- also seems like a huge part of the journey of life! That involves figuring out how to take care of one's self, how to not overdo it, how to cultivate hobbies and outside-of-work relationships... to rest, play, and not just work.
We believe God’s design for humanity as his image-bearers includes a call to work, to join God in his work in the world – and that this preceded the Fall. For that reason, helping people embrace their true gifts, discern what fields of work best suit them and make important career decisions is critical for human flourishing. Our church wants to help people see that figuring out what they’re doing with their life (as pertains to their jobs!) is integral to Jesus’ call to follow him... and enjoying life to the full.
